Altrincham Businesses Team Up to Provide Essential Care Packages for the Homeless

In response to the growing homelessness crisis across the country, and in line with the increasing trend of businesses demonstrating social responsibility, local Altrincham travel agent Leah Mackay of Travel Counsellors has partnered with local insurance broker Howden Altrincham for a campaign to collect unused toiletries.

They are appealing to the community to contribute unused and unopened miniature travel-sized toiletries, which will be donated to Barnabus, a charity dedicated to supporting the homeless. Leah Mackay, a seasoned travel agent from Travel Counsellors, has a history of organising successful campaigns to raise awareness and support Barnabus in the fight against homelessness in Manchester. Leah Mackay states, “We encourage local residents to declutter their homes of unused and unopened miniature toiletries collected from hotels and airlines during their travels. These items can make a real difference. Barnabus will transform them into care packages for homeless individuals who visit their facilities in central Manchester.”

Donated items can be dropped off at the Howden Altrincham branch, including:

• Shower Gel
• Shampoo
• Conditioner
• Soap
• Toothpaste
• Deodorant
• Toothbrushes
• Combs
• Body Lotion
• Wet Wipes
• Airline Amenity Kits

The donation station will be available in Howden Altrincham’s Stamford New Road branch throughout February, March, and April. Simi Sapat, Commercial Account Executive at Howden Altrincham, emphasises the importance of local business partnerships to support charitable causes: “The Toiletries Amnesty project is the perfect example of how residents can give back to the community while supporting important causes like helping the homeless through Barnabus.”

Barnabus is a well-known Christian charity in Manchester, with over 30 years of experience providing critical support to the homeless. Yvonne Hope, CEO of Barnabus, speaks highly of the partnership with Leah Mackay and Howden Altrincham, underscoring the significance of donations and community support. “At Barnabus, we offer accommodation assistance, rehabilitation, practical support, healthcare, skills training, and links to employment opportunities,” says Yvonne. “We also offer a variety of creative activities and volunteering opportunities, including peer mentoring to build confidence, skills, and wellbeing. Donations of goods and time are invaluable to our charity, and we are proud of our ongoing partnerships with the local business community in Greater Manchester.”
