Each Month will focus on a different work of art, all currently located within a day-trip of Altrincham. Emma studied art history at the Courtauld Institute, before a career working in UK art galleries and museums. She has always been keen to share her enthusiasms and insights into European art.
These will be informal talks with opportunities for questions and discussion.
11th June: How to Look at Rembrandt How to look at Rembrandt is the first in a series of four talks. In June, Emma will be concentrating on Rembrandt’s self portrait, an acknowledged masterpiece of European Art, which can currently be seen at Dunham Massey! She will share her enthusiasm for this chance to see a masterpiece close up. This talk will help you get to know Rembrandt’s art and life a bit better, and encourage you to look more closely at his work. He is frequently described as a genius: as a great story teller, an innovative painter of light and shade, and a remarkable portraitist. This is a chance to look for yourself.
Doors and licensed bar open at 5.
45pm, Emma’s talk starts at 6:15pm
