The Music Place Celebrates 30 Years of Making Music

The Music Place is celebrating a very special milestone in 2027 – 30 years of music-making, friendship and inspiring musicians of all ages.

Founded by Lucy McElhinney in 1997, The Music Place has welcomed thousands of budding musicians through its doors over the past three decades, offering individual music lessons alongside choirs, bands, ensembles and regular performances.

Some pupils have learned simply for the joy of making music, while others have gone on to study at music colleges and pursue careers in the industry. The school has even taught four generations of the same family.

Founder Lucy McElhinney said:

“I’m incredibly proud of everything The Music Place has become over the last 30 years. One of the greatest pleasures has been watching our pupils flourish, seeing their confidence grow and watching them perform in our many concerts.

“We also have an amazing team of enthusiastic and talented teachers who make The Music Place such a warm and welcoming place to learn.”

Community has always been at the heart of the school. Alongside its lessons and ensembles, The Music Place runs community projects including a dementia-friendly choir, with pupils and groups regularly performing at events in the local area.

And there is plenty planned to celebrate the big birthday. A special 30th Anniversary Ball will take place at The Bowdon Rooms in March, bringing together pupils, families, teachers and friends past and present.

Then in the summer, look out for something a little different – The Music Place’s first ever Musical Sports Day!

Lucy added:

“For me, The Music Place has always been about the joy that music can bring to people’s lives. Whether you’re 4 or 94, a complete beginner or an experienced musician, everyone is welcome. After 30 years, it’s still an absolute privilege to be part of it.”

Here’s to the next 30 years of making music!
