Returning judges joined by award-winning local baker as competition comes back for a second year

Altrincham’s Ultimate Pudding Competition is set to return for 2026. The organisers have today announced the judging panel for the second annual event which is part of A Taste of Altrincham a celebration of food and drink which runs from Friday 27th February to Sunday 8th March.

Back for a second year are Carl Newton, CEO of Myerson Solicitors and Lisa Warnes of Cheshire Cookery School, who both judged the inaugural competition. They are joined this year by Matt Townley, award-winning baker and founder of MOST Bakery, Altrincham.

Launched as part of A Taste of Altrincham, the Ultimate Pudding Competition is a community-focused celebration of the town’s love of food and creativity. The competition invites people of all ages and abilities to take part, encouraging residents to showcase their baking skills and favourite desserts in a fun and inclusive way.

The competition has three categories: children, students and adults. From classic puddings to inventive sweet creations, judges will be looking for flavour, presentation and originality. Shortlisted entries will be invited to present their desserts for judging on Saturday 7th March as part of the Taste of Altrincham celebrations.

Carl Newton, CEO of Myerson Solicitors, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be returning as a judge for the second year. Last year’s competition was a real highlight, with such a high standard of entries from across the community. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Lisa Warnes, founder of Cheshire Cookery School, added: “I’m thrilled to be back for a second year. The creativity shown by people of all ages last year was fantastic, and it’s wonderful to see the whole community getting involved.  I am very much looking forward to tasting all the shortlisted creations this year!”

New to the panel this year, Matt Townley, founder of MOST Bakery, said:  “I’m delighted to be joining the judging panel this year and can’t wait to see the standard and passion that makes community baking competitions so special.”

With anticipation already building, the 2026 competition promises creativity and great desserts.

A Taste of Altrincham has been organised by Altrincham BID, the team behind Visit Altrincham, and Myerson Solicitors is the headline sponsor.
