Gin-soaked Dickensian mayhem comes to the Altrincham Garrick Playhouse with Bleak Expectations from Monday 29th September to Saturday 4th October
The Altrincham Garrick Playhouse is delighted to announce its upcoming production of Bleak Expectations, the riotous stage comedy from the pen of Mark Evans, directed by Pete Brassington.
Imagine the story Charles Dickens might have written if he’d overindulged on gin, and you’ll be close to the deliciously absurd world of Bleak Expectations.

Follow half-orphan Pip and his sisters Pippa and Poppy, alongside loyal best friend Harry Biscuit, as they try to outwit the dastardly Mr Gently Benevolent, survive the hideous Hardthrasher siblings, and avoid calamity at every turn. Expect dastardly villains, delightfully preposterous names, heart-stopping romances, sudden tragic deaths, and—just maybe—a happy ending.

Based on the multi-award-winning BBC Radio 4 series, this gloriously chaotic caper has been delighting audiences since its 2022 premiere at The Watermill Theatre in Newbury, before transferring to London’s West End in 2023 with a rotating cast of famous faces from comedy, television, and stage.
Now, the Garrick is bringing this joyous spectacle of absurdity and adventure to local audiences. With its quickfire wit, over-the-top characters, and tongue-in-cheek take on Dickensian melodrama, Bleak Expectations is perfect for fans of classic literature, comic parody, and anyone who loves a night of laughter-filled theatre.
