Drama at its finest, it will make you laugh, cry and think: ‘The Father’ at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse – Monday 6th May–Saturday 11th May 2024

The Altrincham Garrick Playhouse is proud to be bringing to the stage a compelling production of ‘The Father’.  Notably, in 2020 ‘The Father’ was released as a film starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. The film won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Hopkins won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

The Garrick's production promises to immerse audiences in a poignant narrative that delves into the complexities of memory, perception, and the fragile nature of reality.  The play is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of love and unwavering devotion, and of the profound bond that transcends the boundaries of time and memory.

Joe Meighan, Artistic Director at the Altrincham Garrick Playhouse explained, ‘The Father’ is an incredibly powerful and relevant contemporary drama which really is one of a kind. Not only does it navigate the complex myriad of emotions connected to dealing with Dementia, but it also shines a light on the lives of those around that individual, the relationships within the Family, the strains and the strength and the ever-changing world in which they now inhabit.

Our production features an exceptionally talented cast, under the thoughtful direction by Charlie Tomlinson who has directed many other successful Garrick production, complimented by a beautiful original score by Pete Grimshaw and a striking set design by Ian Scullion.

This really will be drama at its finest, it will make you laugh, cry and think, but above all, it will allow you to connect in a way only live theatre can.”

Originally written by Florian Zeller, the play was translated into English by Christopher Hampton, subsequently winning the Moliere Award for Best Play and the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor.
