Altrincham BID brings you the best of health this winter

When it comes to staying active, boosting your wellbeing and connecting with your community, Altrincham has something for everyone this winter.

From aerobics, dance and yoga to craft sessions, creative groups, volunteering opportunities and social meet-ups, the town is alive with activities to help you feel your best through the colder months. Fitness, arts, mindfulness, movement, community support – you’ll find it all happening somewhere in Altrincham.

To help residents and visitors make the most of what’s on offer, Altrincham’s Business Improvement District (BID) has brought together details of the many regular sessions taking place across the town. More than 60 activities run throughout the week, hosted by local businesses, community organisations and venues across the town centre.

The winter wellbeing programme includes everything from art classes to yoga, and from book clubs to running groups.

Fancy throwing down on the potter’s wheel? Altrincham has a place for that. Want to test your pitch with a local choir? There are at least seven to choose from.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s happening:

  • Stretch it out at one of at least five yoga classes or Pilates studios
  • Dig for Britain at one of four gardening and chat groups
  • Stride out with one of more than five local running groups
  • Wax lyrical at one of seven reading or writing groups
  • Get involved with one of at least 14 volunteering organisations doing great work across the town

The real strength of this packed local programme is its breadth. It appeals to all ages, abilities and interests, and many community-led activities are free or low cost.

Altrincham BID works with partners including Trafford Council to represent local businesses and promote the town as a great place to live, work and visit. The winter health and wellbeing programme builds on this success, giving residents more opportunities to stay active, explore the town and support local businesses during the quieter months.

Altrincham BID Director Mandy White said:

“This winter programme really shows what makes Altrincham special. We’re lucky to have such a wide range of community groups, independent businesses and local venues offering activities that bring people together and support their wellbeing. Whether you want to get fitter, learn a new skill or just meet new people, there’s something in Altrincham for you. We are really pleased to be working with Trafford Council to help promote such a thriving community and volunteer sector in the town.”

Trafford Councils Executive Member for Healthy and Independent Lives, Cllr Jane Slater, added:

“This is a fantastic range of activities that really sums up the wonderful community spirit we see in Altrincham. Winter can be a challenging time for some people, especially when we become more isolated. That’s why it’s so important that residents know what support is available to help them stay well.

“Many thanks to the BID for bringing this together. I would encourage everyone to take some time for themselves, put self-care first and make the most of what’s on offer.”
